How I visited 4 towns in Italy in 4 days

In April 2023, a friend and I decided we wanted to visit Tuscany. It was a very last-minute decision and a lot of the airbnbs & hotels were over our budget. Instead of staying in the heart of Tuscany, we decided to look for places near by. We were able to find a nice little airbnb in a small town an hour away from Florence. Here’s how I visited 4 towns in Italy in 4 days.

I flew into Pisa on the first day. My friend’s plane was delayed and arrived a lot later than expected, so we decided to head straight to the airbnb. The place we booked was located in a small town/village called Montecatini Terme. It was high up the hill and had cute stray cats roaming around. We explored the small town and bought some pizza cooked in a stone oven and headed back to our airbnb for the evening.

Florence/Tuscany

On the second day, we took the train to Florence. It took about an hour using via train. We had a quick look around before we made out way to our tour group. The tour we booked was a wine tour that took us around different vineyards in Tuscany. It was round 6-8ish hours long, but we received some food and good wine, as well as beautiful views. Once the tour was completed, we made our way into Florence and found a nice area to watch the sunset. Although it was rather cloudy, we still had an amazing time. There were people singing and dancing until it became dark. It felt like a movie and was one of the most wholesome memories I have from travelling.

Cinque Terre

On the third day, we decided to travel a bit further out and went to Cinque Terre. The trip took quite a long time to get to due to restricted services on trains and buses on the weekend (around 2-3 hours). Once we arrived, we chose to visit only 2 out of the 5 villages due to time restriction. In addition to this, the weather was not great. However, the sunset was beautiful and I’m glad we were able to visit a couple of the towns. I will definitely be returning one day!

Pisa

Last, but not least, the fourth day (our last day/ returning day). We decided to get a later flight so we could spend the day in Pisa. We didn’t find much to do here, apart from going to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. If you find yourself going to Pisa, I would say you only need a day or two here. One day was more than enough time for us, but hey, at least we can say we have been.

So there you go. If you want a quick getaway and don’t mind travelling a few hours to different towns, you’ll be able to tick off some bucket list destinations!
